Phasya continuously innovates for understanding the brain activity through the analysis of ocular parameters in order to assess various physiological and cognitive states. Our innovations result from close collaborations of our engineers with experts in the fields of sleep medicine, neurology, human factors, psychology, and gaze-tracking.    

Current R&D projects

Phasya leads several research projects to develop its next technologies.

  1. Maintenance Wakefulness Test: Phasya collaborates with Dr. M. Glos ( Interdisciplinary Center of Sleep Medicine, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) in order to use the Drowsimeter R100 to assess daytime performance in patients referred to the sleep laboratory for Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).
  2. Pupillometry: Phasya develops algorithms to measure pupil diameter from eye images.
  3. Mind wandering: Phasya collaborates with Prof. A. D’Argembeau and Dr. D. Stawarczyk (Psychology Department, University of Liege) in order to detect mind wandering from eye images.
  4. Consciousness: Phasya collaborates with Prof. S. Laureys, Dr. C. Chatelle, and S. Wannez (Coma Science Group) in order to detect and characterize consciousness states thanks to the analysis of ocular parameters and gaze behavior.
  5. Drowsiness detection from face images: Phasya collaborates with Prof. J. Verly and Q. Massoz (Dpt. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Liege) for detecting drowsiness thanks to the analysis of facial expressions.
  6. Drowsiness prediction: Phasya collaborates with Prof. J. Verly and P. Ebrahimbabaie (Dpt. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Liege) for predicting drowsiness.
  7. Stress: Phasya collaborates with Prof. S. Laureys, Dr. C. Chatelle, and S. Wannez (Coma Science Group) in order to detect stress thanks to the measurement of pupil dilation.
